Pulse to open title defence at home

Defending champions Te Wānanga o Raukawa Pulse will open their 2023 ANZ Premiership netball campaign with a home match against the Magic in Palmerston North on March 5.

In an early start and condensed season due to the World Cup following in July/August, double-headers and Saturday night games are a feature of the recently-released draw. All 45 regular season matches will be broadcast live and replayed on Sky Sport while Prime TV will show live and free-to-air games.

``With the disruption of Covid this year, we only had four games where crowds were permitted, so to have eight home games in 2023 is fantastic and doubles the opportunity for our loyal base of supporters to watch us live,’’ Pulse CEO Fran Scholey said.

``We enjoy wonderful home support and look forward to that continuing next year.’’

Pulse coach Yvette McCausland-Durie has welcomed the slightly different scheduling for next year and the short-sharp nature of the competition.

``The Saturday night fixtures offer the opportunity to spread the game to a wider audience which is a real positive,’’ she said.

``We got accustomed to double-headers and short turnarounds this year, so will be looking at building on our preparation and how we can enhance that for next year. It’s great to have the opportunity of a home match to start our season.’’

The sale of Pulse memberships will be advised in due course.
