Well we did it! I know a lot of the critics had written us off a few weeks ago prior to our bye when we were thumped by both the Thunderbirds and the Steel. However as a team we knew that there was plenty more to give and we were far from our best. With pure determination we changed it around within a two week period and have played three reasonable games since. Of course the win on Saturday was fabulous but we still have so much more to give. The Tactix are a quality side that were determined not to give us our first win and continued to come back at us each time we looked to pull away.
For the first time we managed to have a great start to the game and then held that lead for most of the game. We had lapses in our performance all over the court which is where we can improve but the best thing for me was our ability to be patient with the ball for the majority of the game. That is something we have struggled with in previous games when the pressure has been put on us. But this time we were calm and diligent in making sure we gave ourselves every opportunity to score - well on most occasions anyway.
Supporters, fans, family, friends, management and sponsors all joined us for our after match function to celebrate the win. Thanks to Cushla for dobbing me into Frankie Stevens our MC and had me attempting to sing a duet with him. Sorry to those people who had to endure my lack of vocals but as long as every one had a laugh that's fine!
We are off to Australia this weekend to play the West Coast Fever and then the Queensland Firebirds. If we continue to build on our previous performances I think we will have some great matches ahead. Thanks again for all your support and congratulation messages that have come in. We get them all and they keep our spirits high.
Cheers, Jane Altschwager
